First Egg Countdown

I've heard from some on here it looks like she's a plane about to take off lol. Sometimes they stamp their feet too.

Just wanted to announce I got a double yolker this morning :D Same girl. She didn't lay yesterday, so I thought she might have a big one today. She has opted to lay in the doghouse instead of the nesting boxes

but, I think I'm okay with that. We don't have outside dogs anymore so it was just sitting out there, plus it's big and sheltered so maybe multiple girls can use it at the same time instead of fighting over who goes first haha

Oh like they are pushing??? Is it an obvious squat to werre I will be able to without a doubt see it? Sorry I am just so excited I feel like when I was waiting for my kids to be born lol

When you go to pet them they will stop and squat. It is a submission gesture....as they will do when a too approaches them for mating.

Oh goodness I get it now, thank you all for helping

... The pic really helped! I have seen 2 of my hens do that recently

How long after this begins do you typically see eggs?

Thanks for the chuckle about the doghouse funnyfarm, it painted a strange picture.

My girls squat all the way down and that is when I take advantage and pet and pick them up. Their used to it now, they get a treat. They darn near wear themselves out squatting around here.

I love the little feet stamping that goes with it. Well, just Aretha does that, none of the others. She sings the eggs song, too; just a dancing/singing Queen!!

Just walked outside to put the girls up for the night and I found ANOTHER egg! That makes 2 on my first egg day. I guess things are already competitive for them, but this really blows me away!

(two eggs on left were laid today, egg on right is a normal store-bought egg)

The 2nd egg was a little larger than the 1st egg, and how odd I found it in the exact same spot...
