First Egg Of The Season - - Anyone Else Get One?

Got my first egg yesterday!! Hoping for another one or 4 today. The first egg was laid in a nest that had been scratched out of the bedding. I would much rather find them in a nest that under the perch!

Yippee! I got my first one last night and it looks like the other two are going to lay tonight or tomorrow!

I don't remember them being so big, lol. Here is a picture of it with some turkey eggs.

From left to right - Pea (118 grams), BBW (105 grams), RP (85 grams) and EW (64 grams)

Hen number 2 is panting and pacing right now! Curiously, what do you guys and gals mark your eggs with?

Best to use pencil. I usually mark the tops of the eggs where the air sac will be. I mark it pen number, hen & date. Then I will write hatch date number. So if the egg is supposae to hatch on the May 23 I write "23" on the egg, not the month cause there will only be one 23 coming upo LOL

I forgot Congrats on your first egg!

Goldilocks, my white peahen layed an egg today.I saw her mating with my java boy this week. She made a nest by one of my duck boxes. It's a depression in the sand..But as long as she doesnt hurt any of the baby ducks (20 something) running all around Im just gonna watch and let her do her own thing. So far so good but when they turn into babies it might be another thing. I know pheasants are mean to my ducks once they have their babies in tow. Are pea's aggressive as well? Congrats on your first egg casportpony. And yours as well Zazouse.

It is said that permenant markers are bad but i always forget and use them cause when i got hens sitting lead pencils sometimes came off from all the turning.

Guess if my pea eggs don't hatch i can blame the marker but i did use a pencil on some so i will see.

Ink never hurt my guinea eggs still get 90 to 95 percent hatch
