First hatch Brinsea Octagon 20 Advanced I set 31 eggs. LOTS PHOTOS/VIDEOS!! Ill keep this thread upd

I
Did you set it to 99.8? The Brinsea manual recommend temp between 99.3 to 99.6.  You set yours to higher temp that mine, but I heard higher temps equal faster hatches BUT could result in more boys, hahaha. No idea if it is true of a fairytale!
I put 2 mercury thermometers in it and they both read a little lower then the brinsea digital reading so that's why I took it up a little....if that's true about boys I will shoot myself!!!! LOL

I did that too but I used the cheap digital $10 thermometer and it read like 97.5. I read the Brinsea manual and it warned to be careful using other thermometers because they may not be accurate. I can understand that since Brinsea incubator is $350 and the other temp gage is $10. So I took back the cheap thermometer and just trusted the Brinsea. I originally set it to 99.4 but turned it up to 99.6 a few days in.

STILL NOTHING...........

What to you use to candle?? Will a flashlight work??
I use the brightest LED flashlight that I can find. Most flashlights will have the number of lumens printed on the packaging so you can use that as a reference. I also like to use smaller sized flashlights because they are easier to fit in your hand. If you are having a hard time seeing inside the egg and your light is relatively a good one, try finding a darker space. Maybe my eyes are bad, but I almost need complete darkness to really get a good look.

STILL NOTHING...........

Ariel, what day did you say you are on right now? Have you seen rocking, a pip or heard any peeps? When was the last time you candled? What did you see? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just trying to understand your situation. :) But, I'm with you on trusting the Brinsea's thermometer rather than a store bought one. I don't have a Brinsea (would love one tho) but I have heard of so many people on here that really like them. I have 4 thermometers in my incubator right now and they are all reading different temps. Although they are within a degree of each other it still makes me wonder which is accurate. I hope you get some chicks soon!

They looked great. I did try to candle but I didn't have my candler yet so I used my cell phone light and maybe it wasn't bright enough. I also have no idea what looks normal or not. I don't think I saw cracks but againI have no experience since this is my first time. He shipped them from GA to me in CA.  I got some local eggs also in case the shipped ones don't fair so well.  I didn't want to be disappointed if nothing hatches. I am still nervous.  I got my Titan candler today from the UK and I looked at the eggs but again I don't know if it looks normal or not normal.  I am hoping day 7 I see veins then I will know something is happening until then I will don't see anything.
Cell phone lights are bright enough. The trick is getting the focused in the right spot on the egg. That's how I candles my first broody's eggs. Unfortunately she decided on day 8 that she didn't want to sit anymore and I didn't have a bator.

OK UPDATE, I am FINALLY starting to hear chirps. BUT the pips are at the wrong end of the egg so I hope that it will work out ok!

I have been following your thread because we were preparing to set eggs today in the same incubator and I was curious to follow your progress. This will be our first hatch also, starting with 24 shipped eggs. I don't know what the pipping at the "wrong end" signals, but I sure hope you get some chicks after all! Fingers crossed in Virginia!
