First hatch Brinsea Octagon 20 Advanced I set 31 eggs. LOTS PHOTOS/VIDEOS!! Ill keep this thread upd

Once you start hatching it becomes addicting like a continuous science experiment. If you think it's amazing to see chicks hatch...try ducks at some point. I love hatching ducks. I'm still amazed when I see little ducklings hatch.

Just keep your temps and humidity stable and then 3 days before hatch day...lock them down...bump up humidity and see what happens. :0)
I can't wait!! Another reason I cannot fully appreciate the Brinsea is because I have never used anything else. So I am sure I take it for granted. I would love to hatch ducks! I was even thinking next year maybe an EMU! Even thought we cannot keep it, would be fun to have for a few months!

I have 2 incubators and my brinsea mini does an excellent job. I also use a Hovabator that is good too but I have had consistent great hatches with my mini. :0)

I always say...."hatch a duck...you will feel better". :0)

People talk a lot about ducks being so awesome, what is it about them different from chickens that people like them so much?

You know I like hatching both but the first time I hatch ducks...to me it was amazing to see the duck come out of the shell and it just doesn't look like it could fit in there.

My ducks are just funny and their antics are hilarious. Chickens are more serious I think but ducks are just silly. They just make me laugh waddling around in the yard and just doing their thing.

I have some due this weekend and literally you can see them rolling the egg around before they hatch and during. I love to watch them.

On the other hand ...they are more stubborn (they don't want to go in the pen when the chickens do) and they are messier. As far as hardy...the yucky the weather the better they like it...snowing and freezing they are out having a party while the chickens are hiding in the coop. Mine are clumsy too cause they can't fly so they trip if they go too fast...lol

Wow I cant believe your seeing that much on only day 4!! I thought I MIGHT get lucky to see anything on day 7! I might have to sneak one out this evening and have a peek haha.

So I just realized that even though I set my eggs the same day as you, I also set the same amount!

HAHA thanks that is funny! Can ducks fly? We have a 5-6 foot fence with a pool on the other side. I would not want them flying over the fence to the pool. That is OUR pool! :)

LevIS maybe the reason it is so clear is because I am using a high powered candler called Titan from the UK. WOW we set the same day AND same amount? That is awesome! At day 7 I took 5 out. I also took a video at day 8 that is very cool. What breeds did you set?

I know right, I was reading through this and was like.....this sounds familiar.....

I'll have to wait till I get home to watch the video, need to write in on my to do list.

I set 13 wheaten/blue wheaten Americana, 12 Swedish flower hens, and 6 partridge/blue partridge brahmas. I had to stack three of the eggs on top of the others to get them all in there, but I just couldn't throw them out. Figuring I will have to toss some clear ones anyway, but now I have a bit better odds haha.

Just curious, when you started turning yours? I read that you can/should wait till day 7 with shipped eggs but I'm not sure if I'll make it, just seems like a long time you know.

I let the eggs sit out of the incubator pointy side down for about 1.5 days before putting them in the incubator after being shipped to let the air cells stabilize. I put on the automatic turner on right away. I was wondering how you said you stacked 3 eggs, that would be impossible with the turner going!! We both have SFH how cool, I love SFH!!!!

UPDATE on Day 13:

I am VERY sad. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY shipped SFH have very BAD air cells. I DO see LOTS of movement from the SFH. I don't know if they can make it with the horrible air cells I saw. I will post each eggs photo and would love opinions, thank you.

The other things is my local eggs seem to have fertility issue since I stated with 14 local Brahma eggs and I am down to 8, the other 6 never did develop at all. So shipped eggs seem to have 100% fertility but the post office must have thrown my box up and down flights of stairs several times a day just to be A holes, and the local eggs have bad fertility, so sad. I am left with 22 eggs in the bator and 2 I am not sure about. I took 6 eggs out today. 2 SFH for early deaths and 4 Brahma that never were fertile, photos of those posted as well. I did get an AWESOME video of one of the VERY lively SFH Ill post the link to.

PS I did sneak in a few photos of the Brahma and you can see the difference in the air cell, they look normal.

Here is the video link:
