First Hatch of 08!!!!

i found a few pics of them and savannah's pups but i have to upload to photobucket. she had her first litter last year and had 8 puppies, lol booy was that fun. her and trapper had 6 boys and 2 girls. 5 where black and tans like them but to our surprise they had 3 pure reds also.

new pics i put on my site for the new frizzled cochins?
No I just tried where do I click?
I saw frizzled silkies but thats under friends list...will have to look at those too! I love the silkies you have I bet McM's don't look anywhere near as fantastic!

the bare neck ones I'm not sure of makes me want to glue feathers on their cold necks or scarf them lol amazing how black their necks are though!
Are all silkies nice tempered? even the roos?
I tried to stick to good natured birds for the grandchildrens sake....even the bbb's are good temperment I've been told. I had plain white turkeys years ago too and they made our lives miserable! never again.
stubborn dumb mean pooping machines!

when ya click on the link it takes ya to my homepage. up on the top left under the white silkie hen pic there is a button says view my pics it takes ya to my album page with lots more pics. each album has more pics in it. they are in the bantam frizzled cochin album.

thank u.

nope unfortinately that's the big difference between hatcheries and private breeders. they breed for quanity not quality. mine are exhibition stock where as a hatchery is usually pet quality.

surpriseingly the showgirls have been my hardiest this winter i don't have to close them in at night like i do the others. those little nakie necks give off some heat! showgirls are a cross between silkies and a turken. turkens have red naked necks and showgirls are suppost to have black since they have silkie genetics also and silkies have black skin.

my silkies and showgirls all have nice temperments but i have 1 silkie roo who i can't put any other roos in with. i can hold him on my lap and he's fine though. the rest all have 2-4 roos in one pen they are fine it's just him he's to dominant but we can hold or carry any of our males and play with them they are all really mellow. some will sit and play with ya and u don't even have to hold them they sit there cooing while ya pet them. it's kinda funny i never thought roos could be like that. however during breeding season they can get fisty if they hear a hen sound off and right there to see what ur doing.

Hey Silkie chick and Newbie:

I guess you can tell by my greeting that I am from Canada ay. I just realized that I use hey alot not ay. but it is all the same. I just came inside from my barn and have been in and out all day. I had my first egg hatch today from my barred rock broody hen. She is sitting on barred rock eggs and leghorn eggs, and yes they are white. One of my favorite chickens they lay big white eggs and are very personable. So far it took all day for one egg to hatch and she still had 5 more under her. They were due to hatch on the 21st so I got concerned and candled them. I did see the one that pipped and hatched then was in the air pocket. I just candled again thinking something was wrong because nothing else has happened all day. 2 more are in the air pocket and should start pipping soon. 1 is moving around but not up high near the air pocket and 1 isn't moving at all, but it looks like it doesn't have room to move. I think it is too big. I chucked 1 because i'm sure it died, it just turned to liquid right into the air pocket and I didn't want it to break under the hen with the others ready to hatch and the one chick already under her.

I posted a comment on your cochins hehe
what is a turken? part turkey part hen?
For show quality how long did you breed for - years? and changing roos all the time? writing everything down?
I wish there were breeders up here, well there are breeders but they are scattered all over Alberta, drive 10 hours get a couple here and there. I didn't like the sounds of mixing new ones with old ones, at least not till I know what I'm doing.
I want to see which of these breeds I like the most then try breeding them. I should make the honeymoon suite all special lol....hang pics of high end silkies like yours in the silkie suite lol
have little treats on their nests ok I'm getting tired LOL

hey babbs!! good i don't feel so alone ur up worried to about a hatch so we're hatching together, lol. to be honest i know what lays brown, tinted and green or blue eggs more than i do whites, lol. come to think of it i don't think i've ever had a white egg layer. hmm.. i'll have to ask mike i don't remember any. sometimes the silkies lay a cream color and the showgirls but i think that is the closest to white eggs we've ever had.

they look so neat in person i love the way they look all windblown, haha. no a turken is a type of chicken it's a naked neck also known as a transelvanian naked neck. they kinda look like a showgirl but have regular feathers, a single comb and waddles and red neck. showgirls have silkie feathers with silkie colored skin. where are u from?

after here they go outside to the big coops in grow out pens and when they get about 4-5 mths old i seperate the breeds or colors into big coops and runs.

thank u, i love her color most are a blue gray color not her color.

edit for spelling my keyboard sticks, lol.
