First Hatch of 08!!!!

Good night newbie. I still have to go out to the barn and do another check before I have to pick up my hubby from work. I will be sure to take my camera out with me. I have a photo of the pipping chick and then one just after it dried off and fluffed up.

no babies yet but a serama has piped and several silkies piped now at least 3 for definate. i think the temp was a touch to low so they are late hatching. come on babies we waited all night to see ya!!!!

I have to take a load of demolition mess to the dump today and no one home to help me...sigh...
but the trailer is gutted and swept out...I have a ton of room in there and lots of ready made areas I just need to section off.
I hate to leave and miss anything lol....

Good morning Silkie and Newbie:

no babies here yet either. I stayed up a little longer to candle because I got worried again. Not that I'm counting my chickens though, but there is still 3 that are definately alive and should have started pipping by now. I guess I got my dates mixed up or the temp in my broody hen isn't warm enough so i got late ones too. I got about 3 hrs sleep and I was a little happy that nothing happened yet because then that means I didn't miss anything. I like that I can watch the whole thing because my hen is so good. I finally found good batteries for my camera..........had trouble yesterday newbie with dead batteries shutting off my camera. How'd you know? So I will try to catch the whole hatching process with my camera when these late comers finally do something.

I have a couple of questions about marking eggs. What do you mark them with and is there a BEST place to mark them?

Good question

I had the same one and just took a chance on a regular felt marker and marked the top where the air pocket is? Seemed to work on my first hatched egg but I'm still not sure if a felt was a good idea. I've marked before with a pencil crayon but it got real hard to see after awhile. Anyone have a good idea on this?
