First Night of Chickies being outside!

Don't worry about it. Check on them before you go to bed, and in the morning. You'll be fine.

Think about those of us that didn't brood their chicks in the house, at all.
The first couple nights you worry, but then you find out they really are tougher than people give them credit for.

OK, well it's my turn tonight. The weather is nice and I really want them to be outside now. They are 6.5 weeks old and almost completely feathered, and I'm in Texas so it's warm enough.

They're in the coop and we've checked on them several times...they were a little freaked out at first since they're not used to being out there at night. They were peeping very loudly, begging us to bring them inside the house...LOL. But they are quiet now and seem to be settling in. It's going to be a loooooong night.

This caught my eye. I have a yellow lab/golden retriever mix. He loves the chickens but unfortunately cannot be trusted with them. I make sure there is a fence between them as I lost one chick to him last spring.

We just put ours outside today also. Finally finished the coop and they absolutely love it. Keep sticking my head out the back door to see if my babies are calling me. Not a peep. I have 8 babies moving from the brooder to the garage and have 7 brand new babies. No empty nest here.

If you feel sorry for them, you could try leaving a radio on for them overnight for a few nights, just to sort of ease the transition.

Yeah - how'd the possum turn out?
We moved our chicks out last weekend and immediately the weather turned from pleasant to nasty

but after my umpteenth trip out to the coop to check on them I realized they're fine - outside is where they belong, and they've got a snug little coop to keep the weather out. And there's something to be said for having a clean kitchen!

he's in the freezer right now, hubby wanted hamburgers for dinner

But once I get to the store and pick up some of the ingredients for a marinade I found for it, then we'll be having him for dinner...He was a big sucker too *bigger than my pug*, cleaned and ready to cook he's at least 4-5 pounds. I'm gonna try this roast 'possum and sweet potatoes recipe I found that sounds pretty good.
