This is the third round I have tried. First round, nothing. Thermometer was wrong and it was 110. Ok so lowered the temp and candled the second round. Used 3 thermometers and saw development but all stopped when tiny embryos. So third round I never candled them. Left temp the same maybe a smudge higher and I have a pip today!!!

Today is day 24 I believe as I set them on May 13. How likely is it that this is an unhealthy chick that won't make it? I only see the one egg with the chip out. My thermometer laying in the bottom reads spot on 100. I noticed it around 12 noon today.

Well I inspected very closely with a flashlight and see that there are 2 more that have pipped. I hear a light tap, tap, tap.

It's out this morning. A bit bloody looking but the yolk is all gone. Trying to remember if I should lower the removes bit now and release one of the plugs. It's s little giant.

Thats fantastic!
My batch just started hatching as well. You should probably remove both plugs, I have a little giant too and removing both plugs doesn't affect the humidity very much-- in my incubator anyway. could you post some pics of the chick(s)?

and also remember dont open the incubator (unless you do it very fast and its necessary(but one time when I opened my incubator for 10 seconds or so and all my chicks were fine))

First congrats! This is the exciting part. So if your chicks are hatching on day 24 then your temp may have been a little low. Are you using a still air or forced air unit? You may want to check your thermometers and maybe bump your temp up slightly for the next round that you do. How are your chicks doing this morning? My chicks seem to start hatching on day 20 and finish up on day day 22. I did have a few chicks in the past that hatched as late as day 23 and the chick did just fine.

Yes if you have not already done so, remove your plugs. The chicks need the air when hatching. It may drop your humidity a bit but not much. There are several of us here that "meddle" when our chicks are hatching. I keep my humidity at 75% during lock down. That seems to be high enough that if/when I open the bator it comes right back. Now keep in mind that if you are opening your bator you are getting in and getting out quickly. This is not the time to move linger. If your humidity is high enough it should come back up fairly quickly. If you seem to have difficulty getting it back up, try adding clean wet sponges. I have mine cut into 1x2inch pieces that are easy to add/remove.

Congrats on your hatch!

The plugs need to be open for ventilation. Chicks need oxygen just like we do. Also, if you haven't been monitoring humidity, you should get a hygrometer for your next hatch. Candling eggs does not hurt them throughout incubation. Candling is the best way to verify that the air cell is growing properly and that enough moisture is being lost, but not too much. That's where the hygrometer comes in. If the air cells are too small, lower the humidity. If they are too big, raise the humidity. Best to candle at least day 7/14/18. Good luck!

It is running around and the other two have progressed. I will look into a hygrometer and maybe a slight turn on the knob to try to warm it up a bit more. It is a still air little giant.

A man I know started hatching at the same time I did and told me to stop opening the incubator (loses heat) and stop playing with them (candling). So I turned them once a day (as he had been) and he said to keep the tunnels full of water.

I didn't think these would hatch and I was going to try turning them more than once but that man keeps saying only one time a day until lockdown then don't open it.

Well, I dont know there are multiple ways of hatching. I keep my bator dry (around 45%-50%) cause the more humid, the smaller the air cell, so then just before lock down (day 16-17) I raise the humidity (65%-75%) and since I like to check the eggs in the bator sometimes I keep it a little higher (80%). But thats how I do it. Theres lots of different ways to do it.

Those chicks look fine if by "theres blood on him" you're asking "is he ok."
