First time and the suspense is killing me!!

When you candle use a pencil and draw a line on the egg (fat end) where the air sack finishes. Remember, the black in the egg is the chicken and the light bit, should be the air sack at the fat end. If you hear no cheeps you can make a little hole ABOVE the line (fat end) and have a look.

Well nothing happened but when I opened the incubator it smelled something awful. I was pretty sure it had died. I opened the egg and about puked from the smell. I took some pictures so maybe someone can tell me what happened.

That's the membrane surrounding the chick. It looks like its quite formed although hard to tell unless you peel the membrane back so you can see how formed it is. Then it may give you a clue

I threw those other two eggs out last night. And locked down 4 more today. This afternoon I came home to a rocking and peeping egg! Very exciting! This time we will be successful!

Well! My duckling made it out of the egg!! Everyone is so excited here!! I will post pics a little later. When should I feed him?? I have duckling food, just dont know how soon to start food and water...

you cant take him out and put in brooder when he is dried off...and have food and water waiting, you can dip his beak so he knows what the water is..... CONGRATS!!
