First-time Chick Mom - A few questions!

The representative said I was a rare case. He said that it's common that one or two don't make it which is why they include extras, but none of mine did - even the two extras they included. It's not always the fault of the hatchery either. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the US postal carrier just handled them roughly or it was too hot or a/c blasted too cold in the truck.

The rep was very nice though and set up a replacement without even asking for any details or proof that my whole batch was a loss. I'm waiting until Attempt #2 and then I'll pass judgement on them.

In the meantime, someone local is selling me a few bantam chicks tomorrow which will be a welcomed distraction for me. After all the built-up anticipation I don't know if I can take another week without some babies.

Aww! That is so sad, and how heartbreaking for you! :( I hope the next batch arrives safe and sound.

I just wanted to pass along that I usually dampen the chick starter feed with water, and they LOVE it. I read about that on here or the FB BYC. They STILL want moist food even a couple months old, and mob me when I put it in their enclosure. :)
