First Time Chicken Mommy to (6) beautiful young hens here in Southern Maryland.. I've enjoyed every second since we first brought them home at 6 day old. They're now 8 1/2 weeks old and just went out to their coop 5 days ago! It's been rough with the transition from the laundry room to outside (*FOR ME) however, they've adjusted just beautifully!!! (the baby monitor has helped calm me) Words can't express how thankful I was to have the ability to reference to BYC to help self educate myself as I had NO CLUE what to do..

I look forward to being a part of BYC on a whole new level now.

Respectfully,
Monica

Welcome to BYC!

I know how it is....kicking the babies out into the big outdoors! I think we have more anxiety then they do!!

Yes, this is the place to be when you own poultry....we are just busting at the seams with knowledge!

Make yourself at home here on BYC and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy your babies and welcome to our flock!

Thank you drumstick diva for your warm welcome :) I put the toys in their brooder box when they were only 3 weeks old in hopes they would be entertained and hopefully interactive! My thought process was also having familiar (items) to help them with the upcoming transformation of going from the laundry room to the coop...

Also, I'm glad to know I'm not the only nerves nelly lol.. I've never raised chickens more less have ever interacted with them all of my 37 yrs. I've read and have learned so much from BYC!!! I've been accused of smothering them by my husband lol ;) however, I know no other way... My goal is to keep them happy, healthy and SOCIAL! It was a very sad yet rewarding day when they moved out to their coop/playpen. One week later I experiences a whole new level of stress when it was time to let them out to free range. I'm glad I made the decision to raise byc and have honestly enjoyed every second of it.

"I'm proud to be part of the flock"
