Hey everyone! I rescued three chicks from UGA (the perks of being an avian biology major!): a polish, a Cochin, and a silkie. They are so sweet and almost 7 weeks old now. But I have a few questions.

The polish is very spazzy and he loves to perch. Any recommendations how to calm him down and good perches for him?

What are some good signs if they are hens or roos? I'm 90% positive the Cochin is a male since he already has a very red comb and wattle developing, but the others are so different from what I've worked with, that I just have no idea!!

Look forward to hearing from y'all!

Jacqui

I've head Polish Chickens can be more spastic. I don't raise them so I can't verify that.

If you post pictures of them we can probably sex them for you.

I'm not familiar with that breed, sorry! If I have a jumpy chicken I try and spend as much time as possible with it and tame it. They usually calm down as they mature.

Hi and welcome to BYC!
Spend time with them as mentioned above, and offer them plenty of treats. If you get at least one of them to trust you enough to eat from your hand, there's a good chance that the others won't want to miss out.
