First Time Egg Candler Scared!

Thanks for the input. My friend swears by the pointed end up. We decided to experiment with these (one reason is the big end down my eggs wouldn't stay in the cradel.I had to keep pushing then down) and I had read big end up. My temp is ok, holding steady at 101-102. I will drop the humidity and hope is not too late.
I don't know if the others were alive, I didn't check. :-( Duh me! I left them in there 28 days and just expected they were dead. The one that did hatech did so on day 20.
At 28 days, I wouldn't want one to hatch even if it tried. You start getting some problemed chicks around day 24. I have never, ever heard of pointy end up. Would that not put the air cell in the wrong end of the egg and make it more difficult for the chick to hatch? Are you talking about tipping in the egg turner? I had that problem in my first incubator, so I rolled up pieces of paper towel to help hold the smaller eggs in place

Yeah, I'm sorry. I went back and looked at your pics. Are the chicks still in there? Don't tell Amy I said this, but if they are in there, and the others aren't pipped, I would go ahead and take them out. You have a lot of open space in your incubator, and I can just see the chicks rolling eggs from one side to the other. The break in action would be the perfect time to take them out. One of the reasons I leave mine in so long is that the incubator is small, so the eggs actually get rolled less with more chicks in there
Now is a good time. I did take a few out, but I will take them all out. My brooder is super cozy. Then I will move them towards the center where the heat is more regulated. I will try to leave them on whatever side they are on right now.

Same parents? I had chicks with different parent hatch 3-4 days apart.
Interesting. I got the eggs from a local breeder so I'm not sure.

We are one hour away from the end of day 21. I will give them plenty of time. The kids are acting like its Christmas.

So I have six healthy looking chicks crashing around in there. It doesn't look like the other 8 have even piped. What is the likelihood that they will still hatch? Should they have piped by now?
Yay!!! There's still a chance, I'd give it 24 hours after the last one hatched and candle. And you were afraid you weren't going to get any and if you did they'd be late.

yes i have a heat lamp ... and then there were 10!!!

Congrats!

Thank you! I don't know what I would do without you folks. They are tipped over all over the place. Should I try to straighten them out or just leave them as they were kicked.
Well, if you ask me.....lol I'd be fixing them, not because it's necessary, but because it would annoy me...lol

IF you had a hatcher at 20, I would be 100% sure that none others were alive and I never thought I woud agree on something like this, but I agree with SC, I wouldn't have wanted to experience chicks born that late.

That's sweet, he has a mischievious grin...lol

I just finished my hour & a half drive from the city. This is a great way to relax a little. the drive is so stressful great to hear the classroom hatch was a great success SideWings hatch and incubator doing really well. awesome !!!!!!!!!! give your selves a pat on the back its a very good day today. I went through all of this last year alone without realizing what an amazing group of people the hatch squad of the BYC are.

Okay so number 11 pipped but that's it. The chicks running around bumped off some of the shell and regardless of the humidity being 75 it was drying out. I damped my finger and made it moist and I could feel him bumping my finger. Waited longer and still nothing. I decided I would help. I did little by little giving him chances to come out. I noticed he was not in position to hatch at all! He was all twisted and only a small part of his beak was out which is why he could only make a small hole. He is now out but I'm scared I made a mistake of helping him. He is out but very tired o is still sleeping. Here is a picture. What do you think
