First Time Egg Candler Scared!

If it's not developing, I would assume no bullseye
Well, that's why I'm asking. The 11 yellows out of 13 BLR's were shipped. I'm trying to figure out if it was the shipping or the fertility. The box had a hole in the side if it from being mishandled. One of the eggs were broke and they were packed very well. There had to be some deliberate mishandling of the box. It was labeled Fertile Eggs - Fragile! All over the box.

I heard- and I have absolutely no idea how accurate it is- that eggs that are marked "fragile...eggs" are treated worse than eggs that are not marked. Why anyone would do that is beyond me, but I have heard it more than once.

Good point, I didn't even think of that. Like Amy, I wouldn't discard anything until day 10. Usually clear stays clear, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt until I know for sure

And now I'm wondering if a fertile one that fails to develop might be the ones that look kinda "semi-cooked" when opened. Or maybe those are the ones that look kinda brown?

Sidewing, maybe you can check them when you decide to open them? I've never looked for a bullseye in a clear. Lol

That's why I use a Brinsea. It will fertilize infertile eggs

I will have a look on day 10-12 and let you know what I find out.

I read a great blog post from a small hatchery that ships them regular priority without fragile egg stickers and they claim that for years they have repeat customers and a really high hatch rate even when shipping to Alaska. The lady also makes a great point about chickens waiting until they have between 16 to 20 eggs and that the first eggs laid are older than a week and most of them hatch. Her point being that fresh shipped eggs are fine to go the slower route. It was very interesting.
