First Time Egg Candler Scared!

You know i've been thinking about it and they were not that shrink wrapped until after day 21. On day 22 I candled and the air cell was normal. By day 24 the air cell was 50% of the egg. Humidity at 75% how could they have lost so much moisture?

That's what i said about mine too. When I candled on day 23, they were still fluid, so maybe its just the extra time length, plus the chick grows a little more every day.

Mine did it between days 18-20. I candled at 20 because my hatch was pretty much over and that's how I knew that the 2 silkies were goners. I wish I had taken a pic of them candled before I did the eggtopsies. I swear it looked like nothing but air except in the bottom where they were shrinkwrapped.

So sorry you started out so well hatch day . I saved eggs for week to do my first hatch all black Marans my first hatch with my on eggs. I just knew I was going to have a great hatch best ever . well ever being last year & this year. out of 33 only 15 hatched 12 were perfect inside the shell .other were not developed. also there was very high heat spike. Now I've got fans on mine all day long. I just keep hatching knowing I'm going to get better . I learn quick and besides my brother always told me foresight is better but hindsight is easier to come by. better luck net hatch.

So I promised to show you what came in the mail yesterday. I just love these little peeps!

My Lavender Wyandottes! 6 of them!

That takes the pain off a bad hatch we like Wayndottes, I have GLWs & SLWs . thanks for the ovation . now the reason I got back on line I need to teach eggs to read got any ideal how to do that. I'm trying to regain some the money I've put into all my chickens. I paid so much for shipped eggs last year, that I was not smart enough to hatch. it was staggering when I added it all up. along with the cost of building 3 new coops 2 bad incubators from TSC I'm so deep in the whole its going to take a while to get out. I've been setting since mid march ,anyhow I did it again I brought 20 Amerauca eggs that are supposed to hatch tomorrow. I came home early today and found 2 already hatched and 4 more piped. you see the thing is I only set on Saturday so I'll be home for the hatch. I really wish these chickens would get with the program .
