First Time Egg Candler Scared!

how long has the egg ben piped. if I paid a lot of money for eggs I would take it out but only after I was sure there is a problem .A pip on two sides kind of sounds like it I have simple rules you own the egg you make the call. but you also deal with what comes next is it healthy or do you have cull it . its can be very hard to do that but if your going to hatch sometimes you have to do it.

I zipped about 1/4 the way around and then hit a vein or something and there is blood around the membrane. The blood is only on a little bit of the membrane(about the size of a pip), but he stopped zipping. Is this normal? Does he realize he needs to stop and finish draining blood vessels? Or did he kill himself?

He might have been rushing things. There is little you can do to help him, and opening the bator is a bigger risk than waiting if you have other eggs hatching.

If it is just a small bleed, it will often stop itself.

If it's only a small amount of blood, he should be fine. Play the chick music and see if that gets him going again. If he doesn't finish or try then I would assist. One thing I don't do is wait it out on a zipper. Zipping usually is done within minutes and usually if they stop and don't continue within minutes (especially while playing chick sounds) theres a problem. So if they rest more than just a few minutes during zip, I'd go in. As for pippers, if they are not in distress and the membranes are good you shouldn't mess with them for at least 18 hours. After 18 hours if theyve made no progress, then I can see investigating the positioning, but helping within a few hours of the pip is not a good idea.

Can you give me a link to chick music that is longer than 30secs?

With the music he is slowly going again. He may not be too healthy because he pipped last night around 7 and then this morning again around 6. But the 1st pip was on top of the egg and then when my 1st chick hatched he hit his egg and the piup was face down. Now he bleed, lord dont let him die!

After this next chick hatches, I have 1 more tiny pippped egg. The first chick hatched at 4 this morning. Should I go ahead and take him out (after next one hatches)?
