First Time Egg Candler Scared!

Amy WV and Walnuthill to the rescue I really like you guys . now where you when coleson was asking me all these questions. lets see Amy was asleep WV well I haven't a clue and WalnutHill was trying to hatch eggbeaters on the she said he said thread. And me I'm an old farmer who's pulled so many calf's and foals I don't think anything about jumping in to help critters be born . Col you'll get better at it as more hatches get under belt but its always hard to make those calls when to step in and help. Now the rest of you guys got to stay on top of it to keep me from giving bad advise
Ok, so I figured out its the umbilical cord. It isnt attached to the baby it is just stuck in the hair. I am going to take the babies out when the second one is fairly dry. Should I take the umbilical cord out? Or just let it fall out?

Haha BYC910 I'm staining a wood ceiling at my camp. Taking a break to rest my neck.

What's going on now Cole? That one's cord should dry up and fall off on its own. I'll try to check in more often now.

I moved the two chicks to the brooder, 3 egg still only has pip. 2nd chick is very tired. His hair on his back dried weird, like it dried with the egg fluid still there or something (not very fluffy) we will just see

Good job! We call that "sticky". If its not too bad, the chick will eventually clean it off itself. Might just take a little longer to look completely fluffy. Just make sure its beak and eyes are clear and it should be fine.

Thanks so much. All my concerns for him are now not concerns because you answered all my questions. Now I turn my focus to unhatched eggs. It really stinks in the room with the bator, is this the hatched egg shells?

Yes you got it right see your catching on. now did the chick with double pip hatch. next call candle or not .I'm not going to say what you should do I might be wrong .sometimes I do just so I'll know what's going on. what to do what to do ask Amy & WV they will know for sure. I call that(sticky) a mess wait till you clean the incubator I use 1 part bleach to 4 parts water spray it on let it set a little scrub gently but that might be wrong to

The hatched ones might smell a little, but if its a really strong rotten egg smell, you need to figure out which egg is smelling. It can explode and that's not good.
If the other pip is safe, maybe you can pull each egg out one at a time and smell each one. You will know if one is rotten.

Good afternoon/evening. My son spent the day with his dad so mommy got her once a month mommy time.

Got out of the house for the afternoon. (Once those eggs are set that won't be happening, thanks to the lg...lol.) Coleson, you're doing good and congrats on the hatchers!!!

Could it be the eggs left in there that the chicks hatched out of that smells?
