I would. I would have already had him out of the egg with the decision what will be will be. Que Sera Sera. That long in egg, I'd be afraid to let him keep going he'll expire from the strain of tiredness alone. But that's my opinion.

I guess when you hit 61 ( yes I'm that old )hard calls are not so hard anymore I would've opened the egg last night .Everything I learned last year I read out of a book or somewhere on line . but the one thing I did learn is you're going to see blood in eggs. when my oldest son was born the nurse asked if he was our first .my reply was I've been to a lot of birthen's this is my first human one . I think these chickens are more nerve racking than that was

Really depends on how much membrane. I mean obviously you want it all off. But I also don't want to stress the little fella any more than necessary. If its small bits and pieces, those will come off slowly, or you can remove them later. But if there are big spots that are not allowing him to move, then you need to work those off. May be time for WalnutHill's sink dip.

Should I just leave him and let the membrane stay? The umbilical cord is still attached to a tiny piece of shell

It will come off on its own is the cord dry don't pull the cord leave it be for now you can cause a bleed . I the cord is dry cut the piece of shell off close to the shell so it dose not get caught in the mesh floor when the chick starts to move around. only if its dry If this bird makes it you won't be able to part with it

Good job Coleson! I have been following a long and hoping for the best for you and Rocky.

I would be very careful with the cord. I washed and pulled some poop off the lower abdomen once and yolk started pouring out of the chick. It was super sad.
