First time experiencing chicken math

Give this to your kids to compute: Last January, we had 10 chickens and 1 duck. Then 1 fox took away 5 chickens and 1 duck. I wanted a laced wyandotte because I didn't have one of those yet. So in February I ordered 4 laced wyandotte chicks but I needed 25 to get free shipping. I ordered 25 chicks and 15 ducks. In March, we bought a bigger coop. In April the post office called and so I picked up 15 ducklings, 25 chicks, plus 1 extra chick who was probably a rooster. I sold 8 chicks to one friend and 9 chicks and 10 ducklings to another friend. While we were dividing up the chicks and ducks, we noticed they didn't send me any wyandotte chicks so I called the hatchery. They said they'll send me 4 more wyandottes and while I had them on the phone, I felt compelled to order 5 more Ameraucanas. They said they'd need to send "a few" extra free chicks to help keep the others warm. In May, the 2nd batch arrived; there were 5 ameraucanas, 4 Wyandottes, and 6 random freebees that were probably roosters. My friends came back and took all but 2 wyandottes and 2 ameraucanas. In June the fox came back with 2 friends and took away 4 young hens. 2 of those were my only Laced wyandottes. In July our miniature horse flattened 1 chicken. In August, the fox came again and carried off 3 more chickens and we built a bigger better stronger protective fence for our chicken yard. In September I bought 4 more teenage hens off of craigslist. So how many ducks and chickens do I have left?

That is soooo funny...I Love it! My son has a weekly geometry activity called “fool a friend” where he has to post a tricky math problem for other kids to solve. This would be perfect for that!
Awesome!!:goodpost:

Well. According to my newly acquired chicken math skills: You have ZERO chickens! Because of possible cockerels (they don't count), and the well fed fox, and that mini horse. that cancels out all your chickens. You need to order more chickens!

Been doin the chicken math for my current group of chickens
1 rooster = -2 He is a feather footed silkie(he is small in size, but is such a gentlemen to his girls and even the baby chicks)
7 7 week old pullets = 0 not laying of course not eating much
6 hens 3 are molting = as they are not laying = 0 x3 1 is broody cochin sitting on 9 eggs she =-2(small cochin doesn't take up room) take in 9 eggs not hatched = -9
In doing the math I am clearly in the negative and can get more hens as my rooster is lonely.
Ok how did I do.

Pretty good BUT..... 9 eggs "could" yeild more males so I would subtract 9 more in case they are all male or duds.

That leaves you with -18 also known as a black hole drawing chickens into the vortex of empty space inside your coop.

For heavens sake get more chickens before the whole hood is buried in feathers from the chickens being sucked in!
:D please note I am a chicken math enabler.

Did you mean you have (77) week old pullets or (7) 7-week old pullets? Not that it makes any difference with chicken math...just curious! :p
