first time getting shipped chicks

I will be going with the bresse next year, I don't like the cx, and heritage birds don't get meaty enough for me, I thought about jersey giants, but they cost a ton to feed. Then I found out about the bresse and have a breeder withen driving distance. I think they wanted $125 for a breeding trio. I thought this would be cheaper than buying 15 minimum at $30 each for chicks +ph from Greenfire, and they will be mostly growed and don't have to ride on a USPS truck. I might order some cheap roos from meyers to practice caponizing, I don't want to experiment with the breese.
 
That's why I snapped up 27 dp meatie chicks at the feed store for .80 each, to practice caponizing not on my bresse or cemani etc which were more than a dollar each. Unfortunately I ended up with only 5 roos out of 27!?

Rare breeds auction has gff bresse sometimes 12 for $130, idk if it includes shipping. My friend just got ayam cemani juvenile from gff recently and remarked that they sure know how to ship chickens!
 
Should have a heated and air conditioned box for the "Lamborghini" of poultry! Lol!. I would like to try black chicken soup though, it supposed to be good for you. And the cemani sure does look meatier than a silkie.
 
Caponizing. It works for beef and pork, why does it seem so alien for poultry? I just put seven dp roos in the freezer at twelve or so weeks between three and four pounds dressed. If they were capons I would have grown them out. They were fighting too much and terrorizing the hens. And ganging up on the roo I was keeping, who had been the dominate one, a beautiful welsummer. I didn't want him to lose his tail feathers so I butchered early. You don't have to worry about it with cornish cross, they are done growing before they reach sexual maturety. I plan on getting 50 dual purpose heavy breed roos from meyers at .40 or so cents each, .28 cents each for 100. As capons they don't fight at all, or crow, and fatten nicer.
 
Exactly!! I'm in a very urban area and crowing is not ok where I'm at, de-crowing surgery isn't cheap either, so if I want these chickens, they have to be quiet... ish.

I have 5 dp 8-9 week old roos starting to crow, which is why I wish the caponizing equipment was here, b/c I'd hate to send them to freezer camp so little!

I'm taking one of each of my 'fancy' breed chickens and choosing a roo to breed with and a back up breeder to take to the vet for the decrowing surgery when the time comes. The other roos will become capons, which delays freezer camp.
