First Time Hatcher Hatch-A-Long

I’ll join! I’m in the March hatch a long. I was hoping one of my Rouen girls would go broody (pekin drakes) but alas they didn’t. I set 6 eggs on the 6th. 1 ended up not being fertile. I’ve seen veins and little “heart” flickers and I can see the eye? 1 has me a bit concerned about development but we’ll see what happens the next few days. I’m having a very hard time keeping the humidity up over night. I’m using my neighbor’s incubator (that can hold 12 eggs). They recently had set 12 RIR and 10 hatched. Only 2 we’re boys.

And so it begins:

The 14 most perfect eggs I have collected in the past 5 days.

The smallest is 57g, the largest 68g.

Are the darker ones from your Marans? The lighter are the Australorps, right?

The dark ones and the heavily-speckled ones are from my Marans. The others are unidentifiable, mostly Orpington x Wyandotte crosses and a Dominique. The faintly purplish ones might be the Black Langshan. The slightly brower ones might be the Silver-Laced Cochin. There *could* be Australorp eggs in there because the hens are coming back into lay and the pullets are just reaching Point-of-Lay but I haven't positively ID's any of them.

Until I tried to sort them I didn't realize how similar all the eggs had gotten with the 2021 flocks' new layer kinks worked out of them.

It will be so exciting to see the variety of chick colors with such an assortment! Curious to see how much more difficult it is (if at all) when candling the dark eggs. Please share as you do!
