Thanks for letting me join the group. I am a third grade teacher in Merrillville Indiana. I am hatching chicken eggs for the first time this year. I am super excited because I’ve always wanted to have chickens but live in a subdivision and can’t have chickens. This is a compromise to myself. I teach in a pretty urban school system and my students are ignorant of farms, farm animals, etc. I am thrilled to be able to introduce them to the lifecycle of chickens. We are adding STEM activities such as designing a chick playground using simple machines and designing a device to protect a raw egg for a drop off a fire truck basket. I look forward to learning all I can from experience. Maybe someday I’ll have chickens of my own.
