First time hatching duck eggs

That's wonderful!! I'd give water 24hours after the first one hatched and food about 48 hours after the first one hatched. The first one will start to be interested in eating then and the others will copy it. Put the food in the ripply half of an egg carton. That's a good height for them. Spill a bit on the floor beside the carton so it's really easy for them to find.

For a waterer, use something shallow that they can't climb into. I am using a chick waterer.

How was mama acting with it? You could try putting some water & feed in for them tomorrow just make sure they can't get into it and drown, some people use marbles in the water to keep that from happening. I used a chicken waterer. you'll have to stick their bills in it at first till they understand what to do. same for food. Congrats on the new one and great news about the first one doing so good. You know they will imprint on you now, Maybe if you watch mama and she seems good you can slip these 2 back under her tonight. If she gets off the nest today I would try to candle the eggs that you think are a week behind, because like cocoa said they could have died oin the shell and you can take those eggs out and make it more comfortable for mama and ducklings. Just a thought.

I think mama just didnt care about this one, it too was out of the nest but she wasnt pecking at it, she just wasnt showing interest.. I really think that the other chickens and ducks on the outside are making her nervous cause they were running around the outside, especially momma duck, she really was loud and trying to get in the fence, even though she cant.. I will try to candle them today and try to reduce the eggs... I am sure thats alot for her. Next time I think I will just put 6 in there with her.. I guess you learn as you with this and with the help of all of you..

you sure do learn as you go, I have had ducks for 8 years and had had broody ducks and never had a problem till this past june when my one mama hatched her first one and tried to kill it, you just never know, but she'll never sit again even though she was broody on an off all summer. Then I had numerous chickens broody this year and all hatched without insident till this one hen hatched her 2 and killed them. Yes you guessed it she'll not brood again, it's just not worth it. Hopefully mama will settle down after you remove some of the eggs.

Well just candled them and they are all alive and well... I have 5 that have internally piped and 2 of them have started to external pipe.. The other 7 are close as they are filling up the egg.... I guess I will leave them be for now and see what Momma does..

It's 4am here in Australia and I woke up and immediately had to check your thread. Great news that the other eggs are still going.

I think you are going to be pretty tired by the end of this! You really are doing so well.
