Hey everyone! This is our first hatch and I'm so excited and hope everything goes alright! We're hatching out 18 chicken eggs and 4 turkey eggs (maybe 5 but i think we have a quitter). On day 18, I took the egg turner out for the chicks and separated the turkey eggs by a piece of cardboard so they wouldn't be bothered during lockdown. Today is day 20 in the incubator and we have several pips and 1 just hatched that pipped about 12 hours ago! I am concerned for one that pipped about 24 hours ago and I see very little progress but still some. Temp is at 99 since my 3 year old son just cracked it open for a second 🤦but it's been at 99.5. Humidity is at 65% because we live in the South. Is that too much?
I'm very excited for this hatch and hope everyone makes it out alright! It's a barnyard mix so it'll be fun to see what hatches out! By the way, any ideas for how to keep track of which chicks came out of which eggs? I am really curious to see what color eggs are laid by the chicks that hatch out of blue eggs! Maybe some olive eggers!

If you have any tips or encouragement for me, I appreciate it! Thanks for being here!

How many chicks do you have now? And is your firstborn fluffy yet? I bet you will have a whole bunch of little creatures soon...
Good job!
Thank you! We have 12 hatched that are all pretty fluffy now, 6 to go! They are adorable and it has been very cool to watch them hatch! I'm amazed also how much they like me already! I do have one that pipped and I can see it's beak against the membrane. It has not moved at all in about 20 hours. I'm beginning to think it didn't make it. I did open the incubator briefly for 2 reasons; I left the base of the egg turner in and just took all the trays out but one so the turkey eggs could keep turning. One of the chick's little toes was being pinched between the egg turner base and the floor and was about to break his toe trying to get free. Also, the egg turner detached from the base somewhat and ended up dumping the turkey eggs in the "floor" The humidity was about 74 at that point so I felt that it needed to be aired out a bit anyways and several chicks have hatched since then so I'm not sure that was the culprit. 🤷 I've noticed the humidity rises pretty significantly anytime a chick hatched. I'm guessing because they're so wet?

Amazing! what kind are the copper coloured ones?

This is the egg that pipped and i can see the chick's beak but it is not moving. Should I remove it?

About 24 hours now.
You can take it out and start peeling away the shell. If you see blood stop. See if it is dead or not. And then moisten the membrane to see if the veins are still there. If not just keep peeling until it’s head is out and keep the bottom on so it can absorb the yolk and pop itself out

Also, does this look abnormal? The chick is moving and chirping inside but I've never seen the membrane look all wrinkly like that. Or maybe I have and I'm just paranoid. I don't want to shrink wrap any chicks. 3
