First Time Hatching....Round 2

No more empty nest! :

I don't have a humidity gauge, there were some water drops on the window and I was afraid to go to bed last night and the humidity would be too high. I replaced the plug this morning. There were 2 hatched when I went to bed last night and 7 this morning.

Will they be ok till I get home tonight to move them to the brooder or should I move them before I go to work at 12?

thanks

they'll be fine in the incubator until you get home

If 5 more hatched overnight I would say that pulling the plug didn't cause any problems. They should be fine in the bator as long as the temp/humidity doesn't spike too much. I moved mine straight to the brooder because I was neurotic about the bator.

OH, one more question, how long do I wait before I give up on the eggs that haven't hatched?

Thanks again
Robin

i think i waited until day twenty-five on mine then did a float test

Latebloomer--sorry I did not reply earlier-- I had to go to work, sometimes my job gets in the way of my chicken hobby!

I have 9 ( I think) mixed eggs from my own coop--chicken mutts--easter eggers, New hampshires, cuckoo marans, wyanndottes, etc with New hamsphire and EE roosters PLUS..10 frizzle banty eggs and some barnyard mix banties also. I am really excited aboout the banties, because I don't have any yet, plus I love the frizzle look!

lockdown is tomorrow and i had to sit on my hands not to buy more hatching eggs last night if half of the eggs i have in the incubator hatch, and half of those are pullets, i should be all set.

I am also locking down tomorrow. Looks like all of the eggs have developed

, but in some of the mixed banty eggs, the air pocket looks very large and funny shaped, kind of raggedy shaped. any one have any similar eggs hatch successfully?
and, I also have approx. 42 MORE banty eggs on the way from auctions..... I must be crazy!

Okay, this is my first hatching rodeo......
Today is day 18 & lockdown.
Candled yesterday and 7 out of the dozen were fertilized and growing.
We've heard peeps and watched the littlest egg wiggle around this evening.
Now the little guy just cracked its shell!
So my question is: how long does it take for the chicks to break free?
I'm a nervous wreck! lol
Thanks
