First Time Incubating. *Pics*

Congratulations Lacey! I know the feeling of seeing one moving for the first time. My little Australorp chicks are pretty much dancing in their eggs when I candle.

Okay people, I've done it. Finally. It was a long time coming and I'm a little relieved it's over.

I've thrown out the infertile/rotting eggs.

I'm now down to 27 eggs in the incubator, with only one of those being a Sebright egg

. (I started with 8 Sebright eggs)

Other than that, all is looking well. I have 7 days to go, How about you guys?

Yea I had to throw out all 5 duck eggs. Nothing after 11 days. Now tomorrow I will candle the 20 chicken eggs. I'm sure I will have to throw out at least that aren't fertile. And if I can see any blood rings. Brown eggs are a bit tough to see through.

I candled tonight and was happy with my results! My automatic turner holds 28 eggs (after cutting it down to fit) and I loaded 19 buff orpingtons and 9 lavender orpingtons...I ended up with18 good buff's and all 9 lavenders are good. My last hatch rate was about 75% and i'm hoping to do better this go round.

So you think you have a problem with the Drake?

Good luck with the chicken eggs, I hope a good few are still hanging in there.

That's fantastic! Sounds like you're going to have a great hatch rate.

Do you count 75% from all the eggs, or just the Fertile ones?

Yea, I'm not sure about the drake. I actually found him this summer across the street at the lake. Somebody must have let him go. Nobody around here has ducks. He's a VERY big Pekin. Ever since I put the new younger girl in there he is always mating with her. And she wasn't laying the days I collected the eggs. So I will try again the next time I incubate.

I just found y'alls thread just in time to join in the anticipation! Next Wednesday I plan to set about 6 mallard eggs, then a week later, fill the incubator with a friend's chicken eggs. I've read through a bunch of threads on here so hopefully those tips will help with my first attempt at incubation. Looking forward to following y'all on this adventure!

Day 10 candled. Had to take out 5 infertile eggs. Have 15 now. From what I can see they look good. Some are just very hard to see. Some are just so dark in there I really can't see anything. Plus of course there brown eggs.
