I'm so glad you've taken them in and I really hope they'll thrive now that they get proper care.

Ninya (Tweety) has really been having difficulty with her hock and the slipped tendon. I've had to remove the splint several times to give her some rest and then this morning there was a lot of fluid swelling. She didn't have the splint on thru the night or I would have thought that was the reason. The tendon was slipped sometime thru the night. Her little foot was warm too.

After her water therapy I was able to splint above the hock and then sterilize the "balloon". Then using a tiny syringe, removed 1.5 cc of bloody fluid from the joint area. For a little one her size that is huge! Since her body felt warm too, I gave her antibiotics for the swelling and for the temperature. Like a chick, I gave it just under the skin on the left breast. I gave her a hen dose of 1/3 cc of Pennicillin. I just couldn't find enough muscle to give it in her leg. Afterwards, she curled up in my lap and preened. then would just look at me with those little brown eyes...Just grabs your heart.

I had my knee replaced several years ago and had some swelling last year. The surgeon had to remove 50 cc of fluid from inside the joint and injected my knee with cortisone. I figure poor Ninya has a rough road to recovery....but I think she will make it.

The gray Chad, I think is a girl...so name may become Charlotte or Babie. She is much bigger, more assertive and follows me like a puppy. She nailed one of the dogs on the butt today....so quick it was funny.

Excellent work with Ninya. All you can do is keep trying: It is going to be a long uphill battle for sure. If, in the end all your efforts do not manage to save her, at least she has had a loving attentive parent to look after her: She deserves that much in life. I know EXACTLY how you feel. We have daily battles with our little Griffin's bad leg. Today is an especially bad day for him.

Very good news about Chad/Charlotte! Glad to hear the gray is making so much improvement. Although I am sure the dog wouldn't agree, it is nice to hear she/he is feeling good enough to be up to ornery goose tricks.

Keep up the super work and prayers for little Ninya and hugs to her great mom.

This was the morning surprise... Ninya hopped out of the coop all by herself and the two went exploring. Her hock was a little puffy, but the difference in her today was amazing. She was up and down all day without help. And appetite was really good. They nibbled lots of grass today and since we had rain, they poked around in the dirt under the grass.

By the end of the day the swelling is down and she is much better at getting around. Charlotte did a lot of following today instead of leading all the time.

Gosh they have put on a nice little bit of weight and seem to have gotten taller too. Excellent work!!!!

Oh, and Griffin slipped a tendon that I had repaired. However, while he was still splinted the very first day, a well meaning member of my family felt sorry for him and put him outside with the other goslings. By the time I found him, the tendon had slipped again and this time would not go back in place. We took him to an Avian vet and was referred to LSU vet college, who could do nothing for him. My ongoing trials with him is being chronicled in the thread "Experiment with Goose Prosthetics" . We either make him some sort of assisted mobility device, or will end up putting him down. I am on the second trial for a prosthetic and thinking about the fist run of wheelchair.
