First timer - processed today! (pics)

Congrats! The birds look great. Please post after you have your chicken dinner and let us know how the bird tasted. If I ever get a broody and hatch some chicks, I really think I will try to raise the cockrels for meat. I would rather raise the birds well and kill them cleanly than sell them to someone else for meat. I buy organic chicken at the grocery store hoping that those birds are treated somewhat better than the chicken farms. We have a lot of chicken barns and a processing plant where we live. I see tractor trailers stuffed with white leghorns every time I go out. Makes me so sad to see those poor chickies.
 
You should be very proud of yourself! You'll probably never buy store chicken again. I would love to try that myself. Maybe one day....
 
Roasted one last night...it was delicious! Nice flavor, but the big difference I noticed was texture. No mushy meat - tender, but firmer. Yum!!!
