First timer

Sorry for your losses but they teach lessons - your dog cannot be around chickens/chicks. So far I have never heard of a chicken killing a dog.

Hope you will avail yourself of the predator threads (dogs included) to learn how to safeguard your flock. Everything loves to eat chickens. It falls to their caretakers to prevent that from happening. If ground attacks aren't bad enough there is an array of hawks, etc. that will hit them from the sky.

Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you lost a couple. I'm new to all this chicken stuff too. I got my 6 just before Easter. Four baby chicks and 2 a couple months old. I have to agree with Drumstick Diva, never heard of a chicken killing a dog. I do have one chicken (Twin 1) that absolutely hates my dog and will peck at her everytime she gets close to the fence. Twin 1 actually drew blood last week.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough start with chicken keeping. Hounds CAN be trained to hunt only specific prey and completely ignore others, but it does take time, patience and a very consistent effort. An untrained dog will always be a danger to chickens, regardless of how "secure" you think fences and doorways are. I hope you're able to find a way to socialize and teach your dog that chickens are off limits. These links have some good ideas:
