Wow I return! Sooo I was really fed up with my nice betta pairs not doing what they were supposed to be doing, and in a fit of rage I bought a pair of royal blue vts from the pet store to experiment with to see if I could figure out what I was doing wrong that was making my fish not breed. I put them together and without further ado, they spawned. 9_9

Anyway then a week later, we had absolutely whackadoo weather. First was a bunch of tornadoes that ripped through the county and knocked out power for a day. During which time a cold front moved in, and the temperature in my house dropped way below what week-old betta fry can tolerate. Out of 50-70 in the spawn, only 3 survived. But they're doing well. They're just starting to get hints of color. The biggest one might be a turquoise, but it's still a little early to tell.

A couple weeks after that, I bred the blue pair again, because I figured I may want more than just three babies from them, and bam! 200-300 fry this time! Now why can't my expensive show pairs do this???
Anyway they went through the dreaded tiny fry die-off yesterday and I have maybe 50 or so of the second spawn left, which is still a decent number but I would have liked more. Oh well.

So its normal to lose that many ? I would love to see a picture of the survivors if you can.
Sounds like a run of bad luck.
I went yesterday and bought tons of plants so I can finish my new tank and now dont feel like doing it. I also bought 2 silver dollars. They are in the tank . Of course I didnt know they will eat any and all plants so then need a new tank before I plant this one.

He sure did some beautiful work. Do you have pictures ?
Lol sorry for the late reply. Yes and no. I got a new phone last month so I don't have easy access to any older pictures at the moment. I'll add them if I ever get around to it. I do have a couple pics from a recent tank I put up. I told my husband I was "downsizing"....tore down my 40 and set up two 20s :lau
Anyway, here is one of them. A 20 long. It's supposed to be a grow out tank but ...I brought home 15 free endlers and guppies from the local pet store
So they're taking over this tank until I get the pond up.
It's been up and running for about 1.5 months. I was super negligent when moving plants over and had some bad crypt melt so it's not as lush as I'd like but it's all coming back now.
