Yeah that could be it I guess. Idk when he died. He looked okay last night. But must have been pretty advanced stage.I don't know what that is. I do know fish start to decompose pretty quickly after death.

Awwwwww how neat!!! I didn’t even know rescue fish were a thing!!! That’s so cool!! Thank you for rescuing them!!I have fish! Just found this thread.
I have:
1 female guppy
1 GloTetra
1 cardinal tetra
2 kuhli loaches
All of my fish are “rescues”. At my local fish store (not pet, fish.) they have a “good used fish tank.” All those fish have been returned by people. When I went there to check the fish out, there were only three in the tank. A female guppy with a twisted spine, a peach-colored GloTetra, and a one eyed, arch-backed cardinal tetra. They were swimming as dejectedly as fish can around the mostly empty tank. I took the three of them on the spot. The employees were thankful. They said that no one had even looked at that tank in the past two weeks, and they felt bad for the poor fish. Now they have been living happily in my 13-gallon tank for a year and a half.View attachment 2096157

Five months after I got these guys, I got a call from a friend, asking me to take her two Kuhli loaches. She had a tank of fish, and then had decided to move. She couldn’t take her fish with her, so she had a family who wanted fish come and take them. When they were there to take the fish, the little girl said she didn’t want fish that looked like worms. So I took in the two loaches. Can’t get pics right now because they always hide.
So there’s my story!

Algae of some sort? Maybe a deep clean of the tank would help.
