What did you do to treat them if you don’t mind me asking? It sounds awful but I’m not sure if it’s worth it if he won’t recover anyway.

But then I do love him a lot and he’s a fighter so he might be one of the ones that would recover! So idk.

Do you think it’s definitely dropsy? :(

I was hoping it might just be bloat or something but I don’t think so :(

Plus the weird fin which I think is a separate issue.

And wait you have 4 now?
I've done the salt. That works sometimes. I've also done the blue drops, but that never worked well. I've also done the Epsom salts which never worked. Dropsy is a problem with the fishes ability to control osmosis I believe. Too much water gets in. It's considered a symptom of a greater problem. Generally a bacterial, or parasitic infection, or an organ problem, like liver failure.

I'm down to 4. They don't last long here. Either it's my water, or the fish themselves. I can't keep livebearers long either. Angel fish, tetra, loaches, and goldfish thrive here.

You can't add salt to a planted tank, so that complicates your treatment. You could try short term salt baths.

Thank you!! I was reading similar. Apparently some use antibiotics? Or other meds like kanaplex and some others (I saw a list of like 5). Was thinking of getting some but idk. Might be worth a shot if it would help? But of course not guaranteed. Ive seen the blue baths recommended too. So you use aquarium salts? I was thinking of doing the Epsom salt since it said that was best for dropsy but if it won’t work I won’t try it.

I didn’t know you had any! 😂🙈

That stinks about them dying though and not being able to keep some species :(

I think a lot of the pet store fish are sickly to begin with though especially being in those tiny little cups.

And yeah I’m thinking of doing a bath in it. I’ve read that just a very small amount can be beneficial to the tank/plants so was thinking of trying it anyway but I’ve also read that some plants are very sensitive to it so not sure I want to risk it.

If you have antibiotics I might try those since I've never tried that. I just lost a female betta to dropsy. I bought her back last September from Petco. I have 3 males, and one female left from the about 6- 7 I bought.

I don’t have any on hand so would have to go get them but I might try it if it would save him. I have to get some other stuff tomorrow anyway and I kind of want another fish or two to put on the other tank 😂🙈

And oh wow that’s sad!! :(
