I have 4 in my tank 3 of them swim together the 4th likes to do her own thing. But still gets along with the others
Thanks!
I was just seeing a lot of peoplr saying they dont get along.

But the person im getting the fish from i think keeps them in the same tank so i shouldnt actually have a issue.

Ive seen of people saying two female bettas wont ever get along.
Is it true?

When they're raised together they figure out the pecking order very early and don't harm each other as adults (although they do still compete, but it's very subtle).

When two strange females are introduced, they will fight, sometimes severely. The territorial instincts are very strong for Bettas.
I've had females (breeders) meaner than males could hope to be in the spawning tank... ripping off strips of the boys fins and slurping them down like spaghetti noodles. It's a tragedy when they "noodles" look like this:
(same line from the same breeder, but a different individual pictured due to my old laptop waiting for data recovery indefinitely)

Where was I? Oh right. You can buy female Bettas from established sororities and they will be fine. If they're in the same tank at a store, or if you don't have a good store you can order them online, there's at least one site I know of that groups the females individual listings by what tank they're from.

Mother won't let me import any more $100+ Bettas due to the aforementioned breeding attempts and living in an RV. 😓

Thats what i was wondering if its just 2 adult females from different tanks that would be super territorial.

Beautiful Betta!
I should find the picture of my old Betta

The person we got almost all of our fish from besides our last Chiclids(as he wouldnt be getting any for awhile) healthy as can be, and he always refunded us if the fish died( a in store credit) he helped us find plants to grow in our water. I got my Betta from him and he lived a healthy long life compared to our guppies( one or two a week or until they were gone).

I think ill be able to go to the store soon. He just got in a new asst of bettas but it would be a few weeks before i could get some.

Hmm I think it depends on the betta all 4 of mine I got from PetSmart cause it’s the only good fish store around here the rest all the fish look sick or are like $20 for a single small tetra like neons my local PetSmart cares for all the animals there so they’re always healthy.

But like I was saying all 4 of mine came from different cups and I haven’t seen any fighting and they get along perfectly.

The Petsmarts/ Petco around me are terrible with the animals.
There is one other pet store that we got our Chiclids from there is always someone taking care of the fish, but the bettas have never looked healthy.

Im hoping two will get along. But mine hopefully will come from the same tank

Im glad that you live in a good area with people who care about animals.

I know 3 places to get fish, reptiles, birds etc.

Would a 5.5 gallon tank work for 2 female bettas?
It would just be a 20 gal sponge filter set up. With lots of plants and rocks.

I cant get a large tank right now. And petco has a 5.5 gal on sale which would fit right where i want it to.
There is a lot of debate on whether or not you can cohabitate females Betta splendens (normal domestic bettas), with some people swearing 'sororities' work and others saying no.

I'm in the 'no' camp. I have never seen splendens cohabitated successfully in my opinion, that is, without at least one of the bettas showing signs of stress (staying in one small area of the tank, having nipped fins, the other one constantly patrolling for them, etc). No matter how big the tank. We just don't know enough about keeping multiple members of a species that was purposely bred to be hyper-aggressive in the same tank for it to be safe and humane for the fish.

Now, you CAN split a tank with a screen and make two smaller side-by-side habitats. If you're going to do that, I would not go any smaller than the 5.5-gallon for 2 bettas.
(Just be aware that bettas can jump, and some loooove jumping to get into the other side...)

And the females may be smaller than males, but because they don't have the large fins to slow them down, they can be truly dangerous when they decide to fight. Just, imho, not worth the risk of injury and death to try to keep multiple splendens together.

/soapbox

Thanks
Im doing a 10 gallon tank anyways its $3 more so.
And a divider could work if i have any problems.

Im going to see if the person im going to get the bettas from has 2 already together that dont fight, as he puts all the fish in set up tanks. Even the male bettas
