I agree, that was my first thought too, but he doesn't really have any hard tank decor. It's just gravel substrate and live plants. Some of the plants are in terracotta pots but none of them have sharp edges. There's plastic uplift tubes for the undergravel filter and a topfin IF20 internal filter but they don't have any sharp edges either.

I hadn't noticed it yet, but you can see the beginning of it in this Pic taken July 27.

When I first noticed it looked like the small hole you can see here in his dorsal fin but it's just getting worse. His poor tail is shredded and I'm worried the rest of his fins will follow suit.

Does he have any tank mates that may be nipping?

No. Unless some snails hitched a ride on the newest plant, he's the only resident in the tank.

Aw well, good luck with him. He is very pretty! I wanted a galaxy betta for a while but decided on a blue marble.
