Five Tough Chicks and TWO Amazing Embryos!

Nope, but both external pips. :)

Woke up at 1:00am and decided to check in on them. When i shined my light in, one pipped right then and there! The other pipped sometime between 1 and 5am. They usually hatch at around 12 hours after pip, so hopefully this afternoon!

Besides being sat on by broodies for the first week, and being uncovered for who knows how long, then transported an hour, i think the thing that amazes me the most is that I scrubbed these eggs clean. The broodies had gotten them all pretty dirty. Air cell growth was not all that great! I really didn't expect they had a chance. Getting even this far has been pretty cool! Now i hope they hatch healthy!
I hope so too! :fl

If the chicks and ducklings on this thread are indication...your chicks should be fine. :D

First one is out! :celebrate

It started zipping...crooked... then seemed to straighten it out a bit, but then stopped for around an hour. I could still see breathing thru a crack, but it was barely a third zipped and didn't progress for another 10 minutes, so i broke the cap off. She pushed out a few minutes later, lots of goopy stuff, but looks good so far!

Both hatched!! :celebrate

Ok questions...

Why did you pull the eggs if you wanted chicks and they had only been sat on for a week?

Then why did you leave them out and not candle them right away?

And why not candle them all at the same time to see what you had left?

Not tryin to sound ugly just wondering.

One hen sat through 3 weeks, then killed the first 3 chicks that hatched, so i pulled the rest of the eggs from her and hatched them myself. But she wouldn't give up. She kept sitting. I finally decided to give her another chance, i had to know if she could be a good momma. After she sat another 2 weeks, another hen started sitting on more eggs next to her. So the first hen had 2 chicks hatch and the second momma started helping with them and they both left the rest of the eggs.
*The day after their 2 hatched, we found a snake in the building beside the coop. Don't know if it was ever inside their area or not, but assume that's why they left the eggs.
So, I didn't really want to hatch more, and left them sitting. Curiosity got the better of me, and i candled. Then i couldn't toss them.

I should add, I've had over 20 broodies just this year, and done at least 15-20 incubations myself. Some broddies have sat twice and I have way too many chicks as it is. But the lav orps do sell well, so I'm sure i can sell these 2.

Oh my gosh...that's fantastic!!!!!!! :ya:woot:woot
(I was away yesterday or I'd have congratulated you sooner)

Are they ok physically...with feet and everything?

Yup! Adorable chicks. But they don't seem to like each other very much. They don't huddle together like I've usually seen with only 2 chicks. They even peck each other alot! Lol
But they are very active, healthy, eating well and all. I'll get more pics, probably need to list them for sale locally anyway.
