So, I will soon have an abundance of flax seed available courtesy of the left overs from a craft project (best deal is to order the 50 pound sack of feed grade through my feed guy vs. paying a ridiculous amount for small bags of "food grade" - last time around I ended up with about half a bag left) -- in feeding it to my flock, would it be necessary to first grind the flax? I know that for previous feed through to the horses the consensus of those consulted was that grinding would be the way to go as otherwise the small, tough flax seed would simply pass through undigested and make no contribution to the nutrition of the animal eating it. My pondering now is whether the difference in digestive process with the chickens would be able to overcome the whole flax seed or not.
