Flea Market Encounter with Chick Seller-ARGH!!

Beware, the man in question will probably be selling real estate or used cars next.

The chicks were probably worth a buck a piece, but with all bull he probably was asking three times as much.

If you can't sell the product, sell the story.

That just sucks, CYN!
Up here we have the ejumacated good old boys..
The ones that have money and not the brains the Goddess gave a goat!

Like if I bring my PET HENS into a PET SHOP that she'll die of PARROT FEVER!

And I am guilty of having pics of Obelisk and Slifer in my wallet and pics of Obelisk and Penny on my nametag from work.LOL

And I just have to be a REDNECK, not that we have them in the original 13, because I have those dirty diseased things.
And I let them in the house! EWWWW!!!

Oh dear, oh dear.

Were the bunnies babies too? I'm sure the body count for all those hapless critters is already on the rise.

Wasn't what he was doing illegal? I know in Vermont you can't sell animals by a roadside, or at a fleamarket or yard sale (although you can give them away at these places...)

On a lighter note, if I had a gorgeous baby like Suede, I would sure carry his pic around!

There were a few baby rabbits, but most of what they had seemed to be adults. I watched him grab them out of the truck by the scruff of the neck then throw them in the makeshift pens he had set up in the grass by the road. And I mean, he threw them hard, too. I winced when they hit the ground. Apparently, it isn't illegal in NC because I see it all the time.
Thanks for the compliments on my Suede. He does make me smile!

I think we need to SSS that guy! (sorry, could not restrain myself)

:)| Treating those poor bunnies that way - I can't think of anything charitable or even neutral to say. Unevolved morons abound. And they're breeding.

I'd like to offer free spay/neuters to all of them! People like him need to be stopped from abusing innocent beings. The question is, how to do it? I don't know if a humane society could help - maybe).

Nope, it's not illegal in most areas of NC. I know they did pass a law in Buncombe county that you can no longer do that, though. One of our group members was able to coordinate swap and sales in the parking lots of TSC in Asheville, but I cannot remember how he told me he got them to allow it. (You sure can tell a difference in birds of people that actually care for them and people that buy them up a dime a dozen just to make a few bucks off of them.

Now you guys got me thinking about last summer at a swap in IN, I saw what i believed to be a frizzle rock bantam roo, and as I looked him over (he had mites quite bad) i asked the lady what breed he was. She said 'ah frizzle'. I said, "i know that he's a frizzle, but what breed is he?" She said 'he's a frizzle, that's his breed'. I tried to explain that frizzle is a mutant gene and it can be introduced into any breed, but alone it's is not a breed, therefore this bird must have originated from SOME breed other than a 'frizzle'. she glared at me and said 'hes a frizzle, and to you he's $30'. I burst out laughing, told her "ignorant people should be removed of all animal rights until they are educated" and i walked away. I later strolled by (several times with several different people, pointing, laughing and in general ticking her off more) and eventually the $30 frizzle was gone. Poor thing, he was beautiful and would have made a nice addition to my flock, but i wasn't buyin a no-breed bird that day! I probably coulda been arrested for harassment, but i only talked to her that once

yep when I go to the swap I only buy from people who seem to care about their animals. I'll support them but I am not buying from someone who has 10 chickens stuffed in a small box or if they have other critters and they look bad, I just walk on by. All animals I don't care what they are used for should be treated with respect.
