Bad news.
I walked back down there to the creek for the first time in months and was shocked. It has nearly dried up. What was about 10 feet wide and couple feet deep is now about 2 feet wide and a couple inches deep. We've been in an extreme drought all year long here. The weatherman said the other day that we are about 24" behind in rainfall for the year. This is the lowest I've ever seen it get. If we don't get some rain soon it will become a dry creek bed in a few months.
I've been thinking on building a small dam across it (4 or 5 feet) for years. It would power/supply a hydraulic ram pump so I could have free water to a flowing yard fountain and water the garden with creek water. Plus I could put in a small generator that should be able to power quite a few lights around the yard, house and birds.
After I finish this new chainlink around the chicken's two acres and the new chicken house, I need to get down there while it's low and build the dam so I don't have to work in a bunch of water. Being disabled, what would have took me 1 day, now takes me about 4 days. Oh at what I'd give to be young and healthy again.
