Float Testing, Checking Egg Viability For Late Or Overdue Hatching

White leghorn chickens. I recall reading posts from people saying they have eggs hatch regularly as late as day 25. So, I have 3 left in the bator, the rest all hatched out by 1 1/2 days ago.

I would say bad at that age.....you can alway break small hole in the air cell....and see if movement.

For anyone who is going to try this for the first time take note of JJMR794's comment of the water tempurature. . . that's an important part

I just tried this with my Chicken eggs. They were supposed to hatch yesterday, and so far no pipping or rocking or anything! So I put them in the water, and just their air sacks floated, just above the surface. What does that mean?

So PrinceSandwich
and Liamm_1 - how did the eggs finally turn out?

I float tested on day 22 , I know the eggs were fertile at day 18 but I kinda had to high temp after lockdown for a few hours. My 8 egg did the low float (just the air sac above water) and they ended up being dead. For the 'heck' of it I floated a non-fertile eggs just to test and it sunk fast. My temp was 100 on the dot. But i had 'no' movement so I guess that was my signal they were goners.

I'd say a quick sinker is the best indication the egg is definately no good. A mover shows you life ... and the rest you still have to wait until you cannot wait anymore.
