Has anyone else seen a chicken egg this size? It doesn’t even fit in the carton
View attachment 1672928

I had a hen, a production red or a similar breed, who once layed a soft shelled egg and since that one egg she always layed a egg around that size. For the rest of her life she gave me giant eggs that didn't fit into a carton.

I would bet my last dollar that the wonky eggs where because she was a production breed. The eggs weren't the reason for her death, a predator was, but I imagine if she lived longer her reproductive system most likely would have been the cause of death.

I would personally never seek out another production breed because of reproduction issues. Both of the production reds I had where very curious and mischievous. I loved both of them, but I just wouldn't want to deal with issues that will most likely arise.

So this is my 2nd day of what I would call inadvertent abuse by a 1 year old. This morning he fell onto my lip. It still feels swollen. Yesterday he threw a bottle of makeup and it hit the side of my head. He proceeded to remove his diaper before going #2 and catching it with his hand. Yep squishy squishy. Hope no one's eating while reading this.

DH joked that in addition to him I am DS and the cat's valentine. Between DH not letting me have chickens and DS's abuse and turd mess I want to only be the cat's valentine.

Lol I remember you saying you wanted 3 boys KLIL I was surprised when I read that because 3-4 years ago someone I worked one day with- she was subbing for a coworker- told me I would have 3 boys and they would all look like me. I can't see having another 2 of these lil humans! Haha jk I adore him...

Happy Valentines Day everyone! :love

I told DH I was craving ribs but he says they're too messy  hopefully I can still get my valentine's donut. It's the chocolate covered one with valentine's hearts. The hearts are soft chewy candy and the donut has raspberry filling.

It's also Throw Back Thursday! These are pictures of those bantam chickens that I had around 2005 where 16 of them hatched, including those 3 MF d'Uccles.

I rehomed them all shortly after taking those pictures of them. My dad said I could keep hens but the roosters would've found homes easier with hens.

All the silkies went to a silkie lover lady. The 3 japs and jap cross went to a guy who liked japanese chickens. My friend's mom got the d'uccle hens since she already had roos..I later met her daughter at school who is now one of my best friends which was a coincidence...the rest of boys went to a lady and her mom who said they were going to be pets. Hopefully split between them although I understand most roos don't become pets.

RIP chickies
