Secound set of babies arrived today from Cackle hatchery! (my first set was Meyer ) and I can tell the difference! All chicks were totally alive plus the 2 extras in addition to my 15 and they even gave me an extra duckling (I think a Swedish, in addition to my 8 Cayugas! One baby has splay leg and is small but I hope to take a splint to fix it(never had splay legged chicks before) and a really tiny buff orp who suspect may not make it to tommorrow judging by its lethargy. But all the other babies were immediatly eating and drinking in comparison to my first set and seem much more Lively so heres to hoping I only face one or two losses if any!

Glad your grandma is doing well. I've only successfully hatched pekin eggs that were 2 weeks into incubation.. I've tried hatching muscovy eggs but nothing. My hen was able to hatch a few, do you have a broody hen? Muscovey eggs take 35 days to hatch, others take 28.

No broodys, I just want to try something new. So far it'd just like hatching chickens, so that's what I'll go with.

Buff Orp runt and splay leg BR chick have ben dubbed Sunny and Chance respectively and got stuck in the gator to bump there temps, got them eating applesauce for energy.

Good morning. Quick update on the flock and a question. I've recently reconnected with my 14 year old daughter after nine yersy so forum time has been limited.

A couple days after we got our first egg we started letting them out of the coop .It started as a couple hours at night and now it's all day. I have s fenced in yard. Within a week we went from around two or three eggs a day to four or five consistently.

A couple days ago my neighbor took the rooster, which is ok since we hated that thing, and replaced it with a another hen. We didn't know he did it so we let the flock out yesterday. This is the same neighbor we got the chickens from and has been rasing them longer than us.

The new hen got out of the yard. Did a little research and decided to clip all their wings. My daughter and I did four of the six.
I'm not sure if we got the new hen but think we did since one was isolated in the coop.

Question. Is it better to let them get used to each other in the coop or let them out in the yard and establish the pecking order there? They have plenty food and water and a cabbage hanging from a rope to play with.

I don’t know much.. but am learning.. and from what it sounds like on here is that it seems best to let them get to know each other out in the open with more space.. they may also not have too much of an issue cuz if they came from the same place they may remember each other... someone else may know more...

Congrats on reconnecting with your DD! I am not sure but I think out in the open would allow them to escape better if things get really bad.

Lucky! I wish Cackle shipped to Canada. They seem to have the best quality so far.

You can use rice cookers for a lot of things! Look for recipes for them

Thanks! I'll sure be doing that when I get back. I looked inside the rice cooker and it does say the words "rice bowl", so Bob you was right lol I've had this thing since about 2010, now I finally know what it is. I might've known when I bought it but forgot.

So I decided to call that manager at Harvey's because I didn't want to put it off to long. It kept ringing and then said that no one is available to answer the call, but there was not an option to leave a message so I decided to let it go and threw out the receipt. If I go there and it happens again I'll call again.

I'll be flying most of the day tomorrow so I might not do a Throw Back Thursday but will probably have a sneak peek at others' TBT's.

Yes! Maybe it is a rice cooker after all lol, sometimes it burns the rice, but if I turn it off before it goes to the "keep warm" part, it is good

gahh DS insists on touching the touchscreen, I'm going to sign off for now. I was about to disable it but we are leaving for the states tomorrow morning and DH will come back Monday without us until DS and I return on the 23rd of March...why did I have to pick the 23rd lol...

Okay yall... I think my Silkie is trying to go broody! Every time I go out there she is on the nest in a trance... she is no longer laying.. she usually lays almost daily. Anyway, I remove her and she snaps out of it and runs down to eat and drink.. she seems glad to be out but within 20 minutes.. or less.. she is running back to the nest.... I kinda wish I had some eggs to give her
I sometimes think I’d like an all Silkie coop.. have a rooster and have chickies... I swear ChickieMama... you’re gonna get me in trouble!..... buuuuut, the thought of have to sell them to people who just want them for their kids and they get squeezed to death
