Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Its official! Im going To throw in the towel on my hoing pigeons for now :( the snap freeze these past few weeks pushed the coopers to the breaking point and he apparently scouted the entire loft till he found where some ties on the roofing wire had snapped from the snows wieght before I cleared it(I didn't relize it had happend of course) but the bird went full on assassin and squish its way into the maybe hand wide opening between the chain link and loft back(loft is surround by 10×10 chain link covered area) crawled at least 3 feet to get through to the actual aviary/loft and proceed to kill and eat 2 birds this morning :( it was trapped in the loft when I went out to feed early thos morning and caught me by surprise when in slammed right into me trying to get out. Thinking I'll shut down my pigeon attempts and convert it to quail or some such, although I'll keep my remaining birds till something takes them -_-.

OMG Love!!!! Nooo!!! RIP Pigeons! :hugs:hugs:hugs

@KLIL I still love them and will be keeping my remaining birds but I'm doubtful I'll ever get my flock past 20 birds much less have excess to sell off and cover feed costs :( the coopers is ALWAYS THERE and now that spring arrived our kestrels, owls, peregrines, and vultures will also be back and probably soon have mouths to feed (bald eagles have already been back at their nest for a week) :/ plus we have a starting colony of house Martin's and green&purple Martin's plus wild quail ,duck, and rabbit on the property who attract predators as well, so I think it's best to keep the flock small, reinforce their area and convert it to a pen for quail or maybe ducks while allowing the pigeons I have, to remain and breed. I just doubt they will do so successfully given the heavy predation they face :( I'm sure even the field rats and squirrels would go for them as a snack if they took note they were there.

She's had a history of blood clots, so they'll be watching for that. She'll be going for rehabilitation after too.

My partners mate broke his leg in a motorbike accident and had surgery and unfortunatly after 2 weeks got a blood clot to his lung and died.

Penny still brooding away in the goat shed in her pot that wasnt in tended for said use... Hopefully I can give her some adoptee chicks this Friday! Even me putting out our 3 week old babies the other day didnt distract her from sitting lol.

Flock Update!
I checked on my girls today and Hazel was standing sooo still looking out at the bushland as I have never seen her do before. I went upto the coop and even went in the coop and she wasn't moving or even looking at me or noticing I was even there! I think something might have tormented them. Coco and Almond were up in the nesting boxes and came down when I came in the coop. Then they were trying to get out until Hazel told them off and they didn't want out them. Really strange.

I asked Jordan to check them and he said they are ok and had 2 eggs. One was Hazels so shes still laying and didn't look sick so im not sure what was going on.

Was sitting on the verandah step one arvo when suddenly all the girls gathered round clucking @ me. They'd spotted a small monitor lizard waaay before I did. The big ones send them into a frenzy but I do notice they will stand still while deciding whether a meltdown is necessary ~ or not. Not sure how clued in mine are. They seem to ignore the hawks but they don't like those big lizards!

So as a experiment I ordered some quail eggs for hatching online and stuck them in the bator. Unfortunately I ordered 6 she gave me 8 but 4 had been damaged along the way which left me whith 4 good eggs! Unfortunately I candles just now and for whatever reason 2 of the 4 don't seem to have any development. Hopefully the 2 growing ones will both hatch and become our homes Toney feathered mascots! Left the reamaining eggs in just in case as I've never hatched quail.
