Flock/Life Journey's 2019

The lowest we've ever had where I am is -5 but is is rare, we usually only get as low as -2. Its -1 at the moment but no frost or ice so not so bad. We have had bouts of frost and a few mornings this week I woke to my ducks pools being iced over but I was able to smash it, tip it out and replace with tepid water and by mid mornings the frost had cleared up fortunately. I usually find it's the cold winds which are the worst, can be so bitter it chills to the bone. One morning last week it was cold and icey and one of my ducks found it hard to handle, I have a blanket I use when I sit out with them and that morning I had left it on the chair I use to sit on as I was in the run cleaning out their coop and duck house. When I came out from the run, I found my blanket was on the ground and the drake snuggled up on it with the other drake sitting next to him keeping him warm, made my heart melt, so cute. My daughter who was indoors at the time had been watching out of the window, she told me the drake was shivering and one of my chickens pulled the blanket down onto the ground then stood back from it for the drake to use it and she saw the other drake moving the blanket so it surrounded the shivering drake as he lay on it, then sit next to him to warm him up to the point that the once shivering drake was no longer shivering. Wish I could have videoed it as it was such a lovely moment but I didn't know it was happening because I have the run covered top and sides so can't see out when I'm in it.

Animals are so smart! I love it. They do the cutest things!

At about 5 weeks old 5 out of 8 I had went missing without a trace. No feathers, no sign of a killing spree. I thought I might end up finding them one day.

Then there was 3. That lasted a few weeks. Then my sister in law called me when I was at a charity ride we created for someone that was close to my partner that died. We made a few thousand dollars for the farmers here but anyways she tells me theres only 2 now? I thought you said you had 3? I was like noooo I should have 3!

Then I get home and sure enough theres only 2! Which I look everywhere once again. Nothing!
I then named these 2 Hazel and Nutmeg.

Then I stupidly let them out again. I thought they would stay together if the others got lost. But then I came home to just Hazel.
