Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Update: so unfortunately both the babies passed away last night. One was pooping fine but weak and unable to get anything down and the other was simply incapable of anything other than drinking. I kept them going for 2 days forcefeeding but unfortunately they passed last night :(
On another note: how high are people's brooders temps outdoors? In all my years ive kept chicks at around 90 degrees their first week at least but it's so cold outside in the shop that the brooders is 75 in lowest and 87 highest whith 2 heat lamps! On a 2×3ft cage!!! But THEY LIKE IT?!! All the babies seem fine whith the lower temps even the 3 day old ones... Everyone's eating drinking fine and spreading out dustbathing etc. When I tried bumping the heat they immediately started going for more water and seemed discontent so i left it at the 75-85 range... So. Anyone know what exactly a brooders temp is ok at cause these guys are acting like 75 degrees whith nothing but baby fluff is totally acceptable!!? The heat lamps get to 90 directly below them but no one's really making use of that except when they pile up at night during temp drops. They are in a unheated garage whith 2 heat lamps and 13 chicks, and totally content. While I'm here stressing over the snow storm outside! Anyone else have 'cool temp' chicks?View attachment 1669954
The brooder is set correctly. 90 under the lamp and cooler away from it. they will go to the heat when they get too cold.

I am sorry you lost two of them!

What kind of ducks do you have?

Good point!

:fl

:(:hugs DH and DS got their flu shots in November but I am still waiting for my health card which won't come til March. By then the flu season is pretty much over. :th

I've read that they should be at 100 at hatch then either 10 or 5 degrees less each week..been too long since I hatched chicks lol..sorry about the babies :(

:love

I love when chickens purr, I think I've only had silkies and EEs do it, but that doesn't mean other breeds don't so I think it is normal
