FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I was thinking of painting my interior too.I was just going to use low fume interior semi gloss or eggshell. But it would be interesting to see what others have done.

I used sand under coop which is wire bottom so poop falls through an dries almost immediately. My sand was collected under water and then sanitized and dried. I could not find sand that was not silica. As far as paint inside I used elastomeric roof paint in white which once dry is none toxic and puts a nice rubber coating on. It basically latex caulk in a bucket. It's very thick but its designed to penetrate so I had to do 3 coats. I even painted the wire so there aren't any shape edges. I also used the method in my quail cages. We have slide in poop trays we built out of wood and aluminum flashing and then painted with elastomeric or garage floor epoxy paint whichever we had left. The quail don't touch these but I did let the paint cure for a week. Then sand in the trays to collect a dry poop. The sand doesn't mold and is easy to sift with a cat litter scoop. Get scoop with smaller holes. The sand can also be sanitized dried and reused which is nice if you are on a budget.

Gotcha. I looked up the laws for keeping quail on the Florida Fish and Wildlife commission website, and they state for "game birds", button quail are considered pets as are peafowl and guineas, but all other quail esp. cortunix are considered "game fowl" and only 50 or less cortunix are allowed to be kept without a license for personal or commercial use. And within cities it would be a gray area unless specifically addressed in which case it would default to the county then state law.

Where I am we fall under city law and chickens are a no no but quail are a very confusing grey area. I don't believe the government should be able to say what I can a can not feed my family. I will have more acreage in few years so until then I have to stay under the radar.

The same laws apply to keeping Pheasants. I am only allowed 50 without a license.

My friend lives on the treasurr coast and can't have chickens but she rhinks quail are allowed and wants to get some, but the minimum order from hatcheries are 100! She wants some Phoenix .. (can't remember the whole name) do any of you have some idea of how she could get some? She's also willing to hatch them!

I talked to a lady at the Wildlife office and if you sell any type of quail to the public you need a license. Even if you have less than 50 birds.

Tell your friend to find to find steller on here she breeds quail and is NPIP certified and she is in Florida so your friend could probably pick up babies. I order eggs and hatch out. Quail are actually a very grey area on the treasure coast especially certain counties. So tell her to stay under the radar. State law is fairly cut and dry on game birds but several cities and counties not so much. I do not sell I just raise them for my family and keep it under 50 which seems to be the magic number. So it really depends where your friend lives. Tell them to check city code website.

Thanks. Usually, the feed store in town only has them for a very short time in the Spring. That's why I figured most of the other ones probably don't have them at this point either. I'll check around though later.
