I was thinking of painting my interior too.I was just going to use low fume interior semi gloss or eggshell. But it would be interesting to see what others have done.
I used sand under coop which is wire bottom so poop falls through an dries almost immediately. My sand was collected under water and then sanitized and dried. I could not find sand that was not silica. As far as paint inside I used elastomeric roof paint in white which once dry is none toxic and puts a nice rubber coating on. It basically latex caulk in a bucket. It's very thick but its designed to penetrate so I had to do 3 coats. I even painted the wire so there aren't any shape edges. I also used the method in my quail cages. We have slide in poop trays we built out of wood and aluminum flashing and then painted with elastomeric or garage floor epoxy paint whichever we had left. The quail don't touch these but I did let the paint cure for a week. Then sand in the trays to collect a dry poop. The sand doesn't mold and is easy to sift with a cat litter scoop. Get scoop with smaller holes. The sand can also be sanitized dried and reused which is nice if you are on a budget.
