Florida welfare drug testing

Kim: It really does run deep, and it's maddening and saddening all around. I'm actually not against drug testing per say, and I think it definitely can be a step in the right direction, but I think the way it is being handled in this case, and the way the public in general is stirred up to view issues like drug use and welfare is not going to help.

. Something like drug testing with rehab would be a better step, but I don't think that will happen if I am at all correct in what I think the lawmakers' motivations are here. Drugs are awful, they tear people and families apart, and the cycles created by things like physical abuse are endless. I just really don't see this doing anything to break them but actually worsen them by fostering stereotypical thinking and worsen already bad economic and job situations. I completely agree that change is needed, and that it is incredibly important to understand what it is we create through generations and culture. One of the reasons I love this forum is because people in general here are so concerned with what we teach our kids and what we do in life.

Blame it on Chicago politicians. Chicago runs the state (right into the ground). Could you imagine the mess this country would be in if we had a Chicago politician running it??

Not to side track a thread that has miraculously not been locked. I grew up in East Peoria Il. and lived there my entire life up until I moved to Tennessee several years ago. It is amazing the beating that downstate takes from the Chicago machine.

My last 4 jobs have all required me to take a drug test. If I have to take one in order to pay taxes to fund those on government assistance then the least that they can do is take them as well. The drug tests were a condition of my employment. If I wanted the job I'd take the test. Pretty cut and dried in my book.
