Florida welfare drug testing

The tests for public assistance applicants will be administered just like pre-employment tests. You can close the door and there is a sink just outside of the bathroom.

You hand the cup to the assistant and wash your hands. There is no reason for anyone to feel as if they are being treated as a criminal.

If you can close the door, the test only proves you know someone who is not on drugs, or where to buy clean urine. I have not had a closed door test since 1984 or 85... Some monitors avert their eyes, some don't. Do you want the gov wasting more money for worthless test?

It is tough fill out paperwork (which takes time), change into hospital gown (which must be pulled tight enough to see anything strapped to your body), and then getting the "donor" sample into the cup while it is the appropriate temperature in the time allotted. Could some get away with it? Maybe, but many more would get caught than would get away with it.

You're welcome. I would love a raw milk source. Whole milk I've got covered.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge fan of the gov't staying out of the way and letting people just live their lives. However, when the gov't is taking money from ME, money that I have worked long hours to earn, then you better believe I think the rules should be in place and be stringent. Welfare should not be comfortable, nor should it be easy to get. It should not be easy to keep. It should be a royal pain in the butt and a hassle. Education should be easy to get. Job training should be easy to get. Nutritious food for children and the elderly should be easy to get. Help getting off public assistance should be easy to get. Welfare should not be "free money". It wasn't easy for me to actually earn it. It shouldn't be easy for someone else to take that money from me. Welfare should be a helping hand for those that have hit a hard spot in their lives. It should not be a life choice.

The solution I would love to see (but will never happen) would be for public assistance to move back to the private sector. Let churches and charitable organizations run it. Let's spend our federal dollars getting kids educated and adults hired into jobs.

From what I've read, this is separate from food stamps. People can still do their illegal drugs and still buy food with foodstamps thanks to the taxpayers money. So, no worries there.

I am actually pro-legalization of most drugs...but I am also for testing. Being a libertarian, I believe in a persons right to drink, smoke pot, whatever. Your choice. But they don't have a right to make ME pay for their bad habits. Testing for welfare and food stamp recipients all around as far as I am concerned...and yes, at one point we were on food stamps.

I think the drug testing is long overdue and will be handled exactly the way the Federal Transportation Administration makes us handle it. One positive, you are escorted to the testing facility and they perform the test right then and there and process the results before you leave. If it is good enough for our bus drivers, it is good enough for everyone else as well.

The problem I still have with that is that there are some things that will make a person get a false positive. If this were instituted and my family were on welfare, my husband would never be allowed assistance. He tested positive several times on blood tests because one of the medications he takes often causes a false positive. So it wouldn't make a difference if he were marched right over to a facility and had the test done again. He could easily show positive again. That is my problem with the tests.

I appreciate that they allow you to let someone else claim benefits for your children if you test positive, but how does that help the individual who doesn't have kids and still needs the benefits if they get a false positive?

Forgive me if someone else already answered this I havent read all the posts yet but I wanted to answer. First if you tell the tester that you take medications or have medical issues they take that into account on a false positive. Second in our town unless you are on social security or other assistance or very low income you can not get food benefits if you dont have children. My husband is disable due to epilepsy and I am the only one working. We have no medical insurance because my work doesnt offer it I barely make enough to pay the bills and feed us and we cant even qualify for any medical because we dont have children under the age of 18. Thats ok God provides but why should people get benefits to sell them for drugs? Yes it does happen even if they have 10 kids. They need to feed their addiction more than their children. So to me testing is not a bad thing.

I know that if i ever needed welfare i would have NO problem taking a drug test for them. I would be so thankful that they were helping me out in my time of need...
I guess i just dont see what the big deal is... I have nothing to hide.
