I just got some chicks on Sunday and one already flew to the top of the bin and perched there! Oh wow! I caught him/her quick. It is a partridge rock (or something like that). Is this normal for a week to 2 week (max) chick of this breed (or of any breed for that matter)? Seems to me that they are like babies, getting into things even when you thought you had everything baby proof. Good thing I had a screen on top. Now I have the screen weighted! Whew!
 
This is pretty normal! If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense for baby chicks to grow their wings out first, and fast. They are hatched on the ground in the wild, and are very vulnerable to predation indeed. The faster they can fly up to roost with mama, the safer they will be and their survivability goes up. Our domestic chicks these days have the same traits.
