flying the coop

Maybe if you put something over the top just for a little while, they'll give up. I think that once they know they can get out, they'll be out whenever they want.
 
Well the hen house was right beside hte fense, they jumped ontop of the hen house and flew onto the fense, and from the fense into the other coop. i moved the hen houase to the middle of the yard in the middle of the fences.. will this help?

As far as if it was a one time thing... depends on the chicken.
A few of mine flew the coop the first week, only one continues to do so, she's a hamburg and they do not like captivity, she flys over at will although she's had her wings clipped.

She flies out to lay her egg, then flies back in to feed.
